In the past, many engineering firms, especially those in rural areas, relied on surveying as a major portion of their business. Such was the case with Lee-Simpson Associates, Inc. The original firm started as a sole proprietorship by O.P. Hess, P.E. in 1910 and provided all types of property and boundary surveys to private clientele. In addition to the staff of engineers, geologists, and technicians, the firm currently employs a team of talented registered surveyors and survey technicians, who, by education and experience, have mastered the legal and fundamental aspects of surveying. Since the early days, much has changed. With the advent of the electronic/ computer age, many sophisticated devices and techniques have evolved which make more accurate surveys and aid in studying and solving more complex surveying problems. Tools such as EDMs (electronic distance measuring), electronic data collection devices and GPS (global positioning surveys) equipment are now common place. The firm can provide surveying services for projects as small as a single residential lot to boundary surveys for very large parcels. The firm also provides surveying to other engineering firms, architects, banks, real estate agencies and general contractors.
